BOOK TALK #1 - SCARLET REDPATH
It felt right to start this series off with my best friend @thecolorscarlet
Book Talk is a series where we chat with people we admire about the books and magazines they love, book memories, why they read, what they want to read next, and more📓
FOAL: What are your earliest memories of books/reading?
SCARLET: I was very enamoured with books from a young age, my first memories reading on my own are ones from about 5 years old - escaping into fantasy worlds. I remember spending recess tucked away with Harry Potter, the first series I found myself obsessed with.
FOAL: Aside from Harry Potter, what is the first book you remember fully relating to? Is there a character that stands out?
SCARLET: I loved reading the Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark books, Ruby Gloom, Emily The Strange, Goosebumps, Nancy Drew + anything by Neil Gaiman. I found myself in strange characters that felt misunderstood and I was enchanted by anything to do with magic.
FOAL: What is your favourite book on your shelf?
SCARLET: It has to be the bell jar by Sylvia Plath - it’s my most read book and it’s so special to me, I’ve brought it on so many adventures and travels. I wish I could tell miss Plath that even in 2024, women still feel the same way her character does in the ‘50s.
FOAL: What is at the top of your reading list?
SCARLET: Sex + Rage by Eve Babitz, Lapvona by Ottessa Moshfegh, and a photo book called Pink Box about underground Japanese sex clubs I got a couple of months ago.
